YOUR WORST CONCERT EVER ?

The current issue of Country Weekly has an article on worst concerts.  What are yours?  My two worst concerts are unfortunately easy to remember.  I was pulled into both by my wife and kids.  I honestly don’t know which was worse.  Britney Spears lip-synched her whole show and Paula Abdul didn’t !!

The worst show I ever saw was Boz Scaggs a couple of years ago at the Orpheum…We ended up walking out, it was so bad. The horns were pretty good, but the show overall sucked! A couple hours later, as my friend and I were having a drink at the Hyatt, we ran into the horn section, where my friend proceeded to tell them it was the worst show ever! (Adding that the horns were good though LOL). They were pretty nice about it though and even signed an autograph for my friend. (The way the Orpheum works though, I doubt I would ever go to another concert there.)

The worst concert ever that I seen was actually beleive it or not, “Carey Underwood”. The concert was two years ago out at Jobbing arena in Glendale. She was opening for Kenney Chesney. When she came on, all she did was scream, you couldn’t undestand her, it was terrible. Unfortunately as good as she is now, I just hear the screaming from that night, so I can’t listen to her……

The worst concert ever that I seen was two years ago with believe it or not, “Carey Underwood”. She was opening for Kenny Chesney. All she did was scream at the top of her lungs her songs. She was terrible!!! Unfortunately now every time I hear her I have to change the station, because all I hear is the screaming…..

  5. Tammi Says:

I was trying to be a good Mom and let my son go to a concert with a friend so I volunteered to take them and I would stay in back of room
It was ICP (insane clown posse) at the Marquette in Tempe and it was horrible the music the words the night lasted FOREVER although there were no fights and security was awesome it was the worst concert I ever went to.

  6. Deniece Torres Says:

The worst concert would have to be Millie Villnie. Not sure the correct spelling of them. I took my little sister she wanted to see them. It was very much so that you could see that they were not singing since they were runing around the stage and sword fighting and not even out of breath. Also would have to say Billy Idol at the state fair. Way to may people and the sound was so bad in there or may be it was all the bad smoke in there…….

  7. Susan Says:

The worse concert my husband and I went to was Pat Green. Don’t get me wrong Pat was great but the crowd was terrible. Poor Pat was trying to sing and the lower level which was mostly guys down there was saying Pat F_____ing Green. He had to stop the concert and ask them what are they saying. He didn’t get it but went on singing. What a terrible group of drunken fools they were. So we left early.

  8. Carol W Says:

It was when Bruce Springsteen was at the America
West Arena back in 1992, the Acoustics was so
bad you couldn’t tell who was singing.

  9. Mark Berggren Says:

The worst concert ever, was when I was living back in Illinois and our family was into the “early” country stars like Del Reeves, Farron Young, etc. so I am probably dating myself.
Anyway we went to a Del Reeves concert and he was horrible, just horrible. He was drunk and stumbling on the stage, forgot most of the words to all his songs. The concert was a mess. The bad part was we all had seats in the front row so leaving would have been rude, but come to think of it I don’t think Reeves would have know anyway he was so toasted.

I’ve seen a LOT of concerts over the years and have enjoyed pretty much every one of them–EXCEPT Britney Spears!! I took my daughter and her friend when they were in 2nd grade (I think it was 1999 or 2000 at Cricket Pavilion). We were at the front of the lawn but had to stand the entire time (and me with my daughter on my shoulders because she was too little to see ANYTHING when everyone stood up). There were several warm-ups acts that were terrible, and then we waited, and waited, and waited for Britney to come on, but word was she was not happy with something or other and kept the crowd (consisting of mainly young girls) waiting for AGES. I think she finally came on at about 9:30 pm…my daughter and her friend lasted for about 4 songs and then fell asleep; we ended up leaving early. Totally disappointing; she’s obviously a major prima donna!

I have been to a TON of concerts over the years…I mean a TON! My first concert was back when I was still less than a year old! So I’ve been going to shows ever since I could remember. I’ve enjoyed basically all of them…except one. Unfortunately, the worst concert I have been to was the Tim McGraw concert back in June. I actually got dragged to it…I was the DD. And it just sucked…I mean Tim wasn’t doing anything special and it was just boring. I sat on the lawn texting the entire time. Never again am I going to a Tim concert…ever!

  12. Normie Says:

The only concert that I went to in the 70’s and I won the ticket on the radio. It was for the Gap Band. I had back stage passes. First of all one of the band member was rubbing and grinding his private parts with a towel. I have never been a prude in any way or form. BUT I did find it distasteful even then. They didn’t act any better in person either. But it was the 70’s after all and I did get drunk after the concert myself. So what the hell!!!!

  13. scott Says:

the worst was van halen and black sabbath back in 1976 van halen opened for sabbath.van halen rocked, but sabbath just suked the stopped after every song for like 10 min it was before ozzy left so we know why they suked at that time lol
it was at the san diego sports arena

  14. Trevor Says:

I think the worst concert I’ve been to was when Pat Benetar opened for Styx. They (literally) shoved her sound through Styx’ setup and it was horrible! She tried to sing but the over-amp was making an iffy concert miserable. It wanted me to take the spandex she was attired with and shove it into the speakers to try and muffle the sound to make it bearable.

    Dave,

My husband and I went to see Rick Springfield at Fort McDowell Casino. It was a “Concert Under the Stars” because it was set up in the parking lot of the casino. We had to park out in a desert parking lot and then we were bussed back to the casino. We had to go pretty far north to find the turnaround and then go south. Then, Brad Perry (channel 3), opened for the show with a stand-up act. Everyone “booed” him off the stage and started chanting “We Want Rick, We Want Rick”. When Rick finally came on stage, I don’t know if he was drunk, tired, feeling old, or having stage fright, but he forgot the lyrics to his own songs. He asked some fans to come up and help him to remember. Oh my gosh! It was so funny. Then, on the way back to the car, we had to take the bus back and it pulled into another area in the desert and drove about 5 miles until we finally saw lights (generator powered) and everyone started cheering. I think we were all scared that we were gonna die.

Thanks for waking me up the last 26 years. In 6th grade on the bus ride to school, our bus driver used to crank you up!! Love ya Dave!!
I think I still have my Red Card somewhere!!

  16. Paula Says:

Unfortunatly it was this years Toby Keith concert at Cricket. I had looked forward to this for months and of course our AZ monsoon hit that night. We were soaked but ok with it, I was gonna see Toby! They had a delay due to standing water and more rain coming down, and Danny Zylesco (sorry dont know how thats spelled) announced for the lawn area to move into the reserved area. (where we were) Someone who had crowded in was standing on the wet seats and fell on me, I got cut and had to go get medical help, when we got back security wouldnt let us get to our paid reserved seats because it was overcrowded with the lawn people. Since it was pouring and we couldnt see or hear very well, we left early and I cried all the way home.

  17. Kris Burckhard Says:

First, I have to agree with the person who wrote in about this year’s Toby Keith Concert at Cricket. We were in the PIT and it was full of water as drains failed at Cricket, therefore all the water ran to front and I was standing in above the knee water, and I am 6′1″…none the less Danny Zelesko (Live Nation Promoter) was more worried about making his money then the safety of all of the fans in Cricket!

However the biggest disappointment was also this year at the Kenny Chesney Concert. All the concert was great (Leann Rimes getting sick was no suprise as she ALWAYS backs out on concerts and especially those in PHX remember Country Thunder..yeah) Anyway Gary Allan ROCKED as did Keith Urban and Sammy is Sammy. However Kenny was HORRIBLE. We were in the PIT for this show and he was rude to the crowd, he played short as his set list was in front of me, forgot words to his songs, and just wasn’t himself. I have seen him perform live 10 times in the last 4 years and this was the WORST. Not to mention this was his biggest stadium and biggest stage his has ever been a part of and he FAILED!! All of the bad things come to find out are a result of him having a fight with his then girlfriend backstage 10 minutes before he was to go on stage. Believe me I am the first person the world to support him and would agree 100 times over he is by far the best Country Entertainer but this was by far his WORST live show that I or my friends have ever seen. He is a professional and by him having a fight prior to the show should not have shown through during the show. Very disappointing to a event that was built up to be the concert of the year…..BUZZ KILL!!

  18. Brianne Says:

My worst concert was seeing Rick Springfield at the Ostrich Festival in Chandler a couple years ago. Me and my friends were the youngest in the crowd, but we love “Jessie’s Girl.” Of course he waited to play that LAST since it was the only song EVERYBODY knew. He unbuttoned his shirt in the middle of the concert and he was just so awkward on stage. When “Jessie’s Girl” was finally played, we were so angry with the rest of the concert, we couldn’t even enjoy it! Now, I can’t even listen to that song without the awful concert memory! What a shame!

  19. Amber Kahao Says:

You know, I have only and ever been to a handful of concerts: N-Sync, Ricky Martin, Dave Mathews, Tim & Faith, Keith Urban and Nickelback.

Out of all of them, N-Sync was the worst. I just never really had the opportunity to see a whole lot and they are expensive most of the time for who I want to see but Ricky Martin was pretty close cause he had a mishap on stage.

  20. Navajo Taz Says:

Worst concerts I’ve been too were: Dwight Yokam up in Flagstaff at the Skydome. He was an hour late and you could tell that he’d been drinkin before he took the stage. A lot of people walked out on him and he was the main act! The other one was Shooter Jennings and Pat Green at the Marquette in Tempe. Shooter was cancelled and we didn’t find out until we got there so we stayed long enough to see the inside accomodations and tried to listen but the acoustics and seating were horrible so we walked out of there too. Will probably NEVER go see a concert there again!

  21. Debbie Berggren Says:

The worst concert I’d ever seen was Hank Williams jr back in the 80’s here in Phoenix. I am a big Hank Jr fan and this was so disappointing. He did none of his hits. He was just out there trying to be a heavy metal guitar player and it was horrible. The sound was so loud it took over an hour for me to get my hearing back. I had been to rock concerts that weren’t that loud. He was either drunk or high on something and it was just like he was out there for his own entertainment. He didn’t say anything to the crowd. And when he got done he just walked off the stage and didn’t even say thank you or anything. I still love his music though…just won’t go see him in concert again.

  22. Lorrie Says:

I would say my worst concert was George Straight. Yes, he’s a great singer but his stage performance was boring. I actually fell asleep. LOL!
Faith Hill opened that concert when she was just starting out and she was amazing.

  23. Julie Says:

Unfortunately it was Jimmy Buffet at (then)Desert Sky Pavilion. We were on the lawn and they had outhouses lining the back wall. People were drinking so much, the bathroom lines were sooo long and guys were peeing on the back wall! Never again!!

  24. Jeff Says:

1982 first real date went to the Gap band concert, the girl I went with left half way through the concert with her ex-boyfriend. Cool part was she left me with the keys to her car. hee-hee.
