QUESTION: How much per year is considered “making a lot of money?
It is back to school time, and over 70 percent of college students express one of their top 3 career goals as “making a lot of money.” My question to you is: In your opinion, how much is “making a lot of money”? Give a hard number. List a monetary earning figure per year.
I asked my youngest son and his answer was “$100 per year.” I asked my oldest son and his answer was “$10,000,000 per year.” ( I think he’s been watching too much NBA) For most of you, I am sure the answer lies somewhere in between. Please share and post your comments here for the KMLE Nation. How much per year is “making a lot of money?” $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I’m with your eldest. $10,000,000 sounds good to me too!!! I wouldn’t even mind paying the taxes.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:22 am
I think anything over $200,000 is considered making a lot of money.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:28 am
I think making ALOT of money would fall in the range of 1 million per year.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:41 am
I can barely make it now so for me a lot of money is $150,000.
August 13th, 2008 at 4:48 am
Reality sets in, anything over 100k a year to me would be making a lot of money… as a cop, 60k is a lot, but struggling to pay bills each month is not fun, and extra 40k a year…..would be icing on the cake!!!!!
why do you think I try so hard to win tickets from KMLE so often…..cant afford the luxury of concerts….so 100k would be BIG BUCKs to this KMLE citizen……………are ya hiring????

“A lot of money”? In today’s economy, I think it would take a $1,000,000/yr to be making a lot of money. Sad, isn’t it?
August 13th, 2008 at 5:30 am
A lot of money right now for us would be over $500,000.00 a year. Between my husbands salary and our 2 socials we still only make about $68,000 and live from week to week. But each year everthing goes up so its a losing battle. Whats good for today may not be so great tomorrow.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:44 am
I think $200,000 is enough. $200,000 is $96.15 an hour…more than enough if you budget your money right you can have pleanty of vacations and toys :o)
August 13th, 2008 at 5:56 am
I think 100K is alot…Give it another 5-10 years, and that’s what people will need to just survive…
August 13th, 2008 at 6:36 am
I would be in heaven if I earned at least $100,000.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:36 am
$100,000 would be a lot of money in our household. with that my husband could go shopping for all the toys he wants to add to his collection. hmmm better make that $200k!! then there will be some money left over for me!
August 13th, 2008 at 7:06 am
It’s interesting ( almost embarrassing ) that when you DO find yourself making about $100K, you can still find that “it really isn’t enough”. There is enough to avoid the pressures and dreads of “not enough to make it”, but not enough to buy “toys” without leaning heavily on bank financing and definitely not enough to take advantage of the “tax loopholes” that it seems the truly well-to-do are so known for. Perhaps our expectations are too high, or the power of a $Dollar$ is too low. Or we are all still jealous of “more”.

I’m not tooooooo greedy. I think I agree with Dr. Evil. One million dollars is a lot of money even with the pinky finger near the mouth.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:51 am
I think $150,000 a year is “a lot of money”. I guess it depends on what kind of life your used to living, if you go out to a 4 star restaurant every night, drive a Lexus SUV and your kids are in private school, then $150,000 wouldn’t be “a lot of money”.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:52 am
I believe anywhere from $200K to $325K is a nice number. Even with taxes coming out of that a family of 5 can live quite comfortably.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:59 am
I would think to me “A lot of money” would be in the $500k to 7 figures realistically. I mean sure making @200k would be really nice.. but is that really a lot of money today?
To me a lot of money means not having to think about your mortgage, gas bills, being able to travel, donate, relax, provide for your (or your family’s) future without being overly obnoxious about having $$.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:07 am
I think a lot of money would be more then what my husband and I make now. We just barely have 50.00 to save a month. The rest goes to our mortgage and all the other bills that have to be paid. I think just making 70 to 100,000 would be plenty for the two of us. However, we do want to start a family and that probally just won’t cut it! Sad to think???
August 13th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Enough money is when you dont have to look at your checking account in order to buy groceries, or being able to help your elderly father when he needs help.( Payback is a wonderful thing when you have no return expectations.) Being grateful for anything.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:54 am
I think about $75K/year is a whole lot of money. I would be able to pay all of my bills & still have $$ left over for vacation/traveling and savings.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:32 am
A lot of money is not the amount of money you make but the love of your family and how you spend the little money you have on your family
August 13th, 2008 at 10:36 am
I think anything over $100,000 is making alot of money. I’m struggling, but getting by on $42,000 and that’s with a 14 yr old son!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:10 am
I am fresh out of college (Go Sun Devils!) and have recently began a teaching job. I think $45,000 is very good money. Too bad as a teacher I will never make nearly that much.
August 13th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Gee let me see, the average house now days is over $200,000, cars well over $20,000 then there is the gas to put in them and we haven’t even hit the grocery store yet. Since this is all hypathetical, anything over $1,000,000 is what I would consider a lot of money at this time.

The worst concert I ever went to was Waylon Jennings, The Crickets and Hank Williams Jr. The Crickets started off the concert with the good old Buddy Holly songs. When Waylon joined them, you could feel the tension radiating off the stage. The Crickets sang a couple of songs with Waylon then left the stage. Waylon attempted to sing a couple of songs. He stopped in the middle of a song and said ” I’m done” then walked off the stage. Hank Jr took the stage and was so drunk he was staggering and you couldn’t understand a word he sang!
August 13th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
100,000 WOULD BE A LOT OF MONEY FOR ME, WERE STRUGGLING BUT GETTING BY ON 52,000 AND THATS A FAMILY OF 4 WITH TWO LITTLE KIDS… DIAPERS AND FORMULA IS REALLY EXPENSIVE!
August 13th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
I think $150,000 would be perfect.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Well I asked MY family and my wife said $100,000 my daughter said $250,000 (she likes to shop) my other son said $100,000 my youngest son says $50,000. I’m leaning toward $250,000 (I like to shop too!) It seems like whatever we make its never enough.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Well I think $100K would be great, and that is coming from a family of 6. Anyway the more you make the more you spend, and it just becomes a greedy vicious cycle.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
As a local teacher, I make about $40,000 a year and live very comfortably for a single person. I don’t have tons of extra money, but I can easily save for vacation and shopping trips and whatnot. I think making a “lot” of money would mean making $75,000 a year. However, I don’t do this job for the money, I do it because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else five days a week. I do love my career.

For me I would have a lot of money making only 30000/yr. However since I am married my 110000 isnt enough to make my wife agree. She would say we scrape by.
August 14th, 2008 at 5:48 am
Well being a military family(and a low ranking one at that), $50,000 a year would be making it big for us!!! I’m not sure that we would know what to do with all that money!
August 14th, 2008 at 7:00 am
as a college student, id say making 60,000/yr right now sounds lovely.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:07 am
I think anywhere from $200k-$250k will work for me. But I am sure, we all want more than what we earn….the more we earn, the more are the expenses( without even realizing we tend to spend more). Keep striving to earn more than you earn now and be happy with what you earn….this is my policy….
August 14th, 2008 at 7:25 am
I think $150K is reasonable…depends on how you live..and what you buy!!! Listen to me, the expert..haha I am nowhere near that income.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:52 am
I think I agree with the majority $100k would be nice - comfortable! I’m not greedy, just want to be comfortable!
August 14th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
For myself personally, making a lot of money would be $200,000. That would be very nice for my family.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:33 am
I could care well for my family making 100,000 a year. Instead I make half of that and into day market doesn’t got far.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:37 am
I think making over $100k is a lot of money. It’s enough to pay the bills, set some aside for retirment and my kids education.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Times are really hard right now. I am 24 and making $36,000. a year and it’s not near enough. I woud be the happiest person in the world if I could make atleast $90,000. it would be nice to make more but I can settle with that amount. If I wanted a dream amount with a great profession I would choose $180,000.00.
August 15th, 2008 at 10:29 am
I think anything over $250,000.00 is too much.
August 15th, 2008 at 11:27 am
For the past few years I’ve made more then my husband. When we had 2 incomes ($80k+/-) life was easier. Now that it’s just mine, there is no room for error in the checkbook. So, if I could make $100k+/- that would be great. We could pay the bills without batting an eye and take a “real” vacation (leave the state) each year. If you have too much cash one tends to spend it and over extend themselves. However if you have just enough to be comfortable (not put you into a different class of citizens) that is when you are make “too much money”.
August 15th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
to your son that said $10,000,000 wow- he is right that is a lot - but reality is most will not see that, middle class are struggling to live off triple digits these days - so depending on the way your compfortable— DOUBLE IT !!!
August 21st, 2008 at 8:11 am
I think $200,000 would be divine.
August 22nd, 2008 at 6:56 am
$200,000 would be ideal for me.
August 23rd, 2008 at 5:17 am
When I made 30K, 60K sounded like a lot. Now that I make 60K it doesn’t seem like that much more than 30 but now I have no debt. My partner makes about what I make and together we have 100K. When you are raising children, even when you don’t have all the cell phones, video games, toys, today it isn’t that much. So making a lot of money I would have to double it again. 200K between the two of us. It would be sweet if we didn’t lose it all to taxes.
