COLLEGE CLASS OF 2012 !
The majority of today’s college freshmen were born between 89′ and 91′. They have never known a life without cell phones. The only host they have ever known for the Tonight Show is Jay Leno. They will be the first freshmen class in history to receive more of their news from the internet than from television. And due to the internet, many of today’s incoming college freshmen have never used a traditional dictionary, encyclopedia or even a phone book. Many have never consumed tap water, owned a cassette tape or even a movie on VHS! Most have never owned a camera where film needs to be “developed”, and the hunt for Osama Bin Laden started when they were still in elementary school.
Here is the scary part. For many of the incoming college freshmen from Arizona, their parents had already been listening to my morning show for over a decade before the day they were born! Yikes!
Can you think of more? Please share with the KMLE Nation by posting your comments here on the Pratt Page.

DAVE!!! I have been listening to you since you began at KUPD. RED RADIO!! I still have my original Red Card and My Red Underwear. I love, you love, we love Whipped Cream!!?? Great song!! Freeway Mooner (bad influence..Now I moon also) Tubing the river and tons of concerts. When you moved to KMLE I made the change. The older I get the calmer the music needs to be..LOL!!!! Unfortunately they don’t know of the fun we had back in the day. What they think is fun now can’t touch it :o) Parachute pants, the famous big comb in the back pocket. Men with long hair (prettier than the women) and cars…. REAL Bad a—muscle cars!! Partying in the desert and cruising metro.

How about rotary phones and having to memorize the police and fire department numbers, not just dialing 911. Only 3 stations on TV, not hundreds.
This makes me feel very old.

Dear Dave,
Hey there!!! Thought I would send you a shout out from the Northwest. I am a loyal lifetime listener of yours. I grew up in Az from 1978 until 2002 when I moved to Oregon. I dont miss the heat at all. I do miss the radio there though. Yes there are good stations here but nothing like AZ. I listen to all sorts of music, everything but rap. Like I said I have been a loyal listener for my entire life. I have my share of “Red” items!! Good Times! Would you be willing to send me a KMLE shirt? XL
Your Cloass of 2012 blog was interesting to say the least. I now feel old at age 30!!! Its crazy how much the world has changed since I was a kid.
Anyhow just thought I would send ya a hello from the beautiful Northwest. Keep doing what you do,,,,being YOU.
You are awesome!!
Much love and respect,
Melissa Goodwin

they have never known gas for under a buck or for that matter 2bucks
August 20th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
So they are probably asking themselves “What’s a record or a rotary phone???”
August 20th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
They have ipods instead of transister radios, keyboards instead of typewriters, never have done the limbo or the bunny hop!! and have never seen the burma shave signs along the road.

Dave,
I feel students entering college today have had things handed to them instead of working for what they need. I am currently in college working on Masters plus working full time. I just feel like if we make students today work for their education they would appreciate it more then if it was handed to them.

Hi my name is Jessica Graham and Im a senior at Willow Canyon HS. I have listened to KMLE my whole life and dont want to listen to anything else.
And its funny to me when teachers will ask students what they listen to and they will say everything but country, but then they will turn around say there favorite song is What Hurts the Most or another country song and Im like thats a country song, not hip/Hop or something else.

Hey Dave! My name is Chelsea Schwark and I am a sophmore at Barry Goldwater High School. I listen to your show every morning. I love the music and the funny stories. (like the democratic convention in Denver) Thanks for having a great show!

Hey Dave just wanted to comment about being in high school and listing to country music. I am 33 years old and I went to Gilbet High School and all I listen to was KMLE country but I grew up on it too. So I guess it was the “cool thing to do.” Now my son linens to it and says he does not like it but I can hear hear him singing along in the back seat and he will have me trun up the radio on the songs he likes (not realy if you get my drift).

Today’s college freshman doesn’t know what tv was like before “reality” shows and “talent search” shows took over the networks! You know, back when writers actually had to come up with a storyline that was engaging, entertaining, intelligent and heartwarming? Back when there were only 3 networks and they competed for viewership with quality shows? Today’s college freshman thinks they “discovered” 80’s music, the Beatles, Stones,Queen and think Madonna really has a British accent and has always looked like an upper middle-class soccer mom. Most think a country singer considered a “new traditionalist” is someone styled solely after King George and AJ - they have no clue about Hank Sr., Merle, the Possum, Bill Anderson, Charley Pride and Conway, and the only reason they know about the Man in Black is because of a movie with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon! What about debit cards, Starbucks, Wal-Mart, recycling, online shopping, Wikipedia, stadiums and sporting events named after consumer products! And they have no idea what the Winston Cup was and never saw King Richard race! They don’t realize that animated movies weren’t always done by computer, people used to have to DRAW them! Boy! We ARE old, but I wouldn’t trade the memories for anything! Especially the years I have been privileged to be one of your listeners! Thanks for all you do, Dave!!

Dave I gotta be honest, I haven’t listened to your show in a while but I was able to this past Wednesday. I’m not having to get up at the crack of dawn anymore to go to work; instead I am taking my friend to and from the Mayo Hospital(she’s getting ready for a heart transplant). Anyway, We had to be at the Mayo by 7am this past wednesday so I tuned you right in and it made me realize how much I miss you, Stacey, Duelly and Shappy.I love you guys you’re great and I want you to know I will never sleep during your show again.(even though i have no reason to get up that dang early anymore)Thanks for the laughs. karan
